About FruglFam

Hi there!

We're Rekha and Shashank. Welcome to FruglFam!

We're a family of six. And like most families, we're a little chaotic, occasionally disorganized, and apparently very good at buying things we already have.

FruglFam was born out of a problem we kept running into at home. Different people did the shopping, at different times, at different stores. Everyone had their favorite place to shop. And apparently, nobody thought to ask anyone else what we actually needed.

The result? Three bottles of ketchup in the pantry, two people buying milk on the same day, and a whole lot of money spent on things we didn't need twice.

We'd like to say this was because we were all so busy. But the truth is, we might just be a slightly dysfunctional family that doesn't communicate particularly well about groceries!

And then there was the other problem. We had absolutely no idea whether we were getting a good deal.

Rekha might stop at a store near her workplace where something Shashank needed was on sale. But how would she know he needed it? And how would he know it was cheaper there?

Then came the tomatoes.

One fine day, Shashank went to Walmart to buy wiper blades. A perfectly straightforward mission. Except he came home with tomatoes too. Tomatoes for which he had paid almost TWICE what Rekha usually paid at her favorite store.

Let's just say Rekha was not impressed.

And somewhere between the overpriced tomatoes, the duplicate groceries, and the realization that we were probably wasting hundreds of dollars without even knowing it, we had a thought.

There HAS to be a better way to do this.

What if everyone in the family knew what everyone else had bought? What if we could remember what we paid for something last time? What if, before buying those tomatoes, Shashank could simply ask, "Hey, what do we usually pay for tomatoes?" or "When did we last buy tomatoes?"

And better yet, what if we could see what other stores nearby were charging?

That's how FruglFam was born.

Not in a fancy boardroom. Not from some grand business plan.

Just a family trying to stop buying too much ketchup and paying too much for tomatoes.

And here's the beautiful part. We wanted to make it ridiculously simple.

Shop like you normally do. Snap a picture of your receipt. FruglFam takes care of the rest.

No complicated spreadsheets. No manually entering every item. No trying to remember what you bought three weeks ago.

Just a little more knowledge, a little less waste, and hopefully a lot more money staying in your pocket.

But we didn't want to stop there.

Imagine if the prices you paid could help your neighbors save money too. And the prices they paid could help you. Suddenly, we're not just making our own families a little more frugal.

We're helping an entire community shop smarter.

And don't worry. Your personal information and shopping habits are yours. Period. We're not interested in telling anyone who you are or what you buy. We're interested in something much simpler: what things cost. Because knowing that can help all of us make better choices.

That's really what FruglFam is about.

A little less waste. A little less stress. A little more money for the things that actually matter.

And maybe, just maybe, fewer arguments about tomatoes.

Thanks for being part of our little idea. We hope it makes life a little easier for your family, just as we hope it will for ours.

Happy shopping! Stay Frugl!

With love (and a pantry full of ketchup),

Rekha & Shashank
