Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
This policy explains what information FruglFam stores when you use the app, why, who helps us process it, and the choices you have. Questions or requests: ssrao80@gmail.com.
What FruglFam stores
- Account details: your email address, name, household and role. Passwords are stored only as one-way encrypted hashes; nobody, including us, can read them.
- Financial records you add: bank and card account names with the last 4 digits only (never full account or card numbers), balances, transactions (date, merchant, description, amount, category and which household member), subscriptions, insurance policies, bills and rental income labels.
- Files you upload: bank and card statements (PDF/CSV), receipt photos (stored as compressed images) and utility bills.
- Receipt details: store, store ZIP code, date, items, quantities, prices, tax and tip.
- Things you create in the app: shopping lists, price watchlists, category rules, settings and the questions you ask the assistant with their answers.
- Security records: failed sign-in attempts and password-reset requests, including the IP address they came from.
- Usage records: for each AI request, which feature was used, the amount of processing and its cost. These records do not contain your financial data.
How we use it
- To show your dashboards, cash flow, subscriptions, price tracking and alerts, and to answer your questions.
- To send the optional daily email digest (you can turn it off in Settings).
- To keep accounts secure and prevent abuse.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who processes it for us
- Anthropic (Claude AI models), reached through Emergent's AI service: receives receipt photos, statement text and your assistant questions only to extract and answer them.
- Our email provider: receives your email address and the content of your digest and account emails.
- Emergent: hosts the app, database and file storage.
- These providers process data on our behalf and only for providing the service.
Community price sharing (optional)
- If your household turns on price sharing, item prices from your receipts (item, price, store and ZIP code) are shared with nearby FruglFam households under a scrambled identifier that cannot be traced to you. Turning sharing off removes your shared prices.
How long we keep it
- We keep your data while your account exists.
- Original statement files can be deleted automatically 30 days after import (Settings → Statement files). The extracted transactions stay.
- When you delete your account, your data is deleted immediately and uploaded files are wiped.
Your choices and rights
- Download a copy of your data at any time: Settings → Your data → Download my data.
- Delete your account and data at any time: Settings → Your data → Delete my account & data. If you own a household, this deletes the whole household for all of its members.
- Correct your data by editing transactions, receipts and settings in the app.
- California residents: under the CCPA/CPRA you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to access and delete it, to correct it, and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. To make a request, use the in-app tools above or email us; we may need to verify your identity.
Security
- Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwords are hashed, sign-in attempts are rate-limited, and sessions can be ended by changing your password.
Children
- FruglFam is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
- If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app or by email.
